Dubious Climate

As stated, the setting is coastal - wind patterns and a bordering southern mountain range render the humidity relatively low, subhumid to humid in category. Shallow seas proceed very far off this coast, and volcanic islands are accessible by a fairly short, safe sail southward. As far as the area of interest goes, the [scribe] compound is relatively far inland, as much of it is underground. It, alongside most of the land between the mountains and the coast, are flat, low-elevation plains. There are relatively few trees, with most of the vegetation comprising shrubs, grasses, and other squat plants. Some large, tree-like grasses exist further north, as the climate becomes more tropical.

A major river exists on the western bound of the relevant map, flowing northeast from the mountains. Smaller streams exist, none especially relevant at present. The northwest section is a coastal wetland, and remains mostly uninhabited.

Rain and thunderstorms occur fairly frequently, though flooding is usually restrained to major waterways. Despite the presence of tectonic features, major earthquakes are very uncommon. Tsunamis occur, but are typically broken by the outer volcanic island chain, and result in a much less urgent coastal flood on the mainland.

In terms of temperature, it is a fairly mild climate at all times, though nights are often cool and windy.
